About
the Artist
Darcy Rohats grew up loving to draw animals. Her
passion for art lead her to a Bachelor’s of Fine Art
at the University of North Texas. After graduation she
became an illustrator for Joske’s advertising
department in San Antonio, Texas. Although successful
there she wanted to see the world after years of
schooling and left only to get as far as Dallas due to
the oil crisis of the time.
In Dallas she learned she had to work to eat and took
work that was not in her specific area of interest but
was successful and worked her way to the training
department of a retail organization where she was able
to use her talents developing training materials and
illustrating some of them as well.
While she worked in retail she met and married and
during that partnership her husband found her a
Norwegian Elkhound to replace a pet just lost. With
this new furry partner Darcy began training and made
lasting friendships through her dog Buck. They
competed in Conformation, Obedience and Agility
trials.
After her more than 20 years of marriage ended, she
and her new Norwegian Elkhound, Bunny, headed to
Phoenix, Arizona to be with her sister. Once there she
became active with a dog agility club of wonderful
people and enjoys dog sports and training with them.
When Bunny had 6 puppies Darcy began to enjoy
photographing them and this led to drawing that lead
to making personal note cards and soon her love of oil
painting led her back to her beloved pet portraits.
Darcy currently lives with 4 Elkhounds, continues to
go to shows and trials and work her oils to create
lovely portraits of people’s pets to enjoy for a long
time. All this while she works full time. Hopefully
you can see the pleasure she takes in the depiction of
each pet on canvas.
